As we know the Microsoft announced, the retirement of Internet Explorer. Microsoft Edge with IE mode is officially replacing the Internet Explorer 11 desktop application. Which means Internet Explorer 11 desktop application will go out of support. be retired on June 15, 2022, for certain versions of Windows. Microsoft retiring internet explorer.

The future of Internet Explorer on Windows 10 is in Microsoft Edge. Microsoft Edge is faster and more secure. it is more modern web experience than Internet Explorer. Also, The Microsoft Edge with (IE mode) is the only browser with built-in compatibility. It is compatible for legacy IE-based sites and apps.

Microsoft Edge provides a dual engine advantage of Internet Explorer mode. For compatibility with legacy websites and the Chromium project. the technology that powers many of today’s browsers for world class compatibility. And performance with modern websites.

As we all know & experienced some sites are built to work with Internet Explorer. It also, have functionality that isn’t supported by other modern browsers. Post retirement of If you need to view one of these sites. Microsoft has built a future in called Internet Explorer Mode in Microsoft Edge. so that compatible sites can be viewed after retirement of explorer also.

Most sites work better on modern web browsers. With batter speed and security, Microsoft recommend only using Internet Explorer mode when necessary.

How to turn on Internet Explorer mode, use the following steps. 

  1. In the address bar for Microsoft Edge, type edge://settings/defaultbrowser and then click Enter.
  2. Here slide the Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer toggle to ON.
  3. Then Restart Microsoft Edge.

Since the Internet Explorer mode enabled, view a website using Internet Explorer mode in Microsoft Edge, you will need to use the following steps.

  1. Navigate to the website you want to view in Internet Explorer mode.
  2. Click the three dots in the upper right corner of the browser window.
  3. Select More tools> Reload in Internet Explorer Mode.

To return to browsing without Internet Explorer mode, you can click Leave on the information bar at the top of the screen or close your current tab and open a new tab in Microsoft Edge.

NOTE: If you are on a device managed by your organization you will NOT see the option to Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer

Under edge://settings/defaultbrowser to allow Internet Explorer mode through the More tools menu. On a managed device, will see the option Open sites in Internet Explorer mode under More tools ONLY if your organization has configured the group policy to “Allow Internet Explorer mode testing“.
