All You Need To Know About Windows Auto App Rearrangements & The Right Way To Fix It.

If you are multiple desktop (Monitor) user, you may have experienced this frustrating app rearrangement issue. It usually occurs when you leave the system unattended and the system goes to it goes to sleep mode, once it wakes up you see on screen all apps are scattered. 

Here are few scenarios you may have experienced while having this app rearrangement problem

  1. When your device laptop or desktop is connected to external monitors over a DisplayPort connector and application windows are placed in certain locations on your desktop screen.
  2. You left your system for some time unattended and your device goes to sleep mode.
  3. once you come back and return to your system to wake your device you may saw desktop apps are in different place on screen.
  4. The application windows have unexpectedly moved to a different location of the monitor like sometimes other place on one screen.

Finally the fix was issued by the Microsoft. This issue of app rearrangement is also known as Rapid Hot Plug Detect (Rapid HPD). Explained by Michelle Xiong, a program manager on the graphics team at Microsoft. “This behaviour impacts DisplayPort multi-monitor setups which results in unwanted desktop rearrangements.” Michelle Xiong

To check your Windows build number:  
  • Right click on start and select settings

  • Go to System
  • Click on About tab.
  • The build number is located under “Windows specifications” > “OS build” and other details
