7 ways to fix laptop is not starting

If your laptop doesn’t start or it starts but won’t boot properly, it’s possible that you simply can fix the laptop reception without taking it to a repair center. Here are some troubleshooting tips for you.

I’m unsure if I can cover all situations directly , so i will be able to update this post as more examples inherit my mind.

• Situation 1

When you plug the AC adapter the facility LED and therefore the battery charge LED illuminate . once you continue the facility button the laptop powers up but won’t start. there’s no video on LCD or external monitor.

Troubleshoot Tips

1. If the facility LED lights up it indicates that the laptop is getting power from the AC adapter. presumably there’s nothing wrong with the adapter but just just in case test it with a voltmeter to form sure the output voltage is correct.
2. Also do this . Unplug the AC adapter, remove the battery and await 1-2 minutes. then plug the AC adapter ans try starting the laptop again. Sometimes this trick helps.
3. It also might be a memory related problem. Try resetting the memory module, just remove it from the slot on the motherboard and install it back. Try installing the memory module into the opposite slot (if it’s available). If you’ve got two memory modules installed, try removing them one by one and begin the laptop just with one memory module installed.
4. If the laptop starts fine with one memory module in both slots, but won’t start with the second memory module in both slots, the second memory module is faulty. Replace the module.
5. If the laptop starts fine with both memory modules once they are installed within the slot A, but won’t start with both memory modules installed within the slot B, the slot B is faulty and you’ll need to replace the motherboard or use just one memory slot.

• Situation 2

Troubleshoot Tips

1. It may indicate a problem with the laptop LCD screen, video cable, graphics card or motherboard or RAM is dusty.

• Situation 3

The laptop appears to be dead. You plug the AC adapter but the LEDs (power light, disk drive light, battery charge light, etc…) don’t come up and therefore the laptop won’t react in any respect if you press power button .

Troubleshoot Tips

1. First of beat this example check the AC adapter. you’ll test the output voltage with a voltmeter. If you can’t do this , find a known good AC adapter and use it for testing the laptop.
2. It might be the laptop appears to be dead because the AC adapter is not in good condition (and the battery is discharged). If you are sure that the AC adapter is working fine and it has correct voltage but the laptop is still not working, most likely you have a power issue on the motherboard and it has to be replaced.
3. If you need to replace the AC adapter, make sure you use a correct AC adapter. The output voltage of AC adapter must be exactly the same as on the original AC adapter. The output amperage should not be lower.

Fix for My laptop is not starting

• Situation 4

When you power on the laptop, the laptop makes short and long beeps and will not start up. The screen is blank.

Troubleshoot tips

1. 1. As I described in the situation-2 you will need to test the memory module. Try to clean memory or installing a good known memory module. Most likely you are getting a beep error because of a faulty memory or Hard disk connection might be loose.

• Situation 5

You start the laptop. It seems like the laptop is booting normally (hard drive LED is flashing) but there’s no video on the screen.

Troubleshoot Tips

1. In this situation you will need to test the laptop with an external monitor. If the external screen works fine but there’s no video on the laptop LCD, presumably there’s a drag inside the laptop display assembly.

• Situation 6

When you boot laptop it works for a while, but after that it shuts down by itself without any warning. You restart the laptop but the same problem appears again and again.

Troubleshoot Tips

1. Most likely it’s a CPU heat related issue. Check if cooling fan is making Lagging sound, make sure it’s works fine.
2. This issue may be because of a faulty memory module, repeat situation 2 here.
3. As the laptop still boots you still can see the screen, so you will need to run the memory test. you can Memtest86+. Run the memory test and if it fails, then you need to replace the faulty module.

• Situation 7

When you start the laptop but it starts making repetitive clicking noise or grinding noise.

Troubleshoot Tips

1. Most likely you hear this noise due to a faulty disk drive . you’ll remove the disk drive and begin the laptop without it.
2. If the noise is gone, the disk drive is your problem. Replace it.
3. If the laptop makes clicking or grinding noises and you continue to have video on the screen, you’ll run a tough drive test utility. I usually use Hitachi’s drive fitness test. This test is reliable and straightforward to use.
